What this riflescope does

The Vortex Diamondback 4-12x40 is a variable-power optic built for hunting big game, predator, varmint, muzzleloader and slug-shotgun scenarios. Its 40 mm objective lens and fully multi-coated glass maximise light transmission in low light. The Dead-Hold BDC reticle reduces guesswork on hold-over and windage across changing distances.

The specification that decides fit

Eye relief sits at 3.1 to 3.4 inches, so the scope must be mounted where your shooting position naturally places your eye that far back. Parallax is fixed at 100 yards and the 1-inch tube accepts standard rings. If your rifle demands longer relief or adjustable parallax, this model will not match.

Installing and common pitfalls

A single-piece 1-inch tube simplifies ring alignment, and capped 1/4 MOA turrets with 15 MOA per rotation keep adjustments secure in the field. Total elevation and windage travel reach 60 MOA each. The most frequent issue is discovering too late that the fixed 100-yard parallax leaves a blurry image at much closer or farther ranges.
