Purpose and user

The Vortex Viper HD 3000 is a laser rangefinder built for hunters who need reliable distance data at long range. It offers 7x magnification through a 25mm objective lens and reaches a maximum reflective range of 3000 yards, with 2000 yards on game targets. The HD optical system uses select glass elements and XR Plus coatings to reduce chromatic aberration and maximise light transmission.

Setup and common issues

The unit ships ready to use with a CR123 battery, soft carry case, wrist lanyard, bungee cord lanyard, lens cloth, utility clip and a 2.5mm hex wrench. Operation centres on a single measure button and mode menu; first-time users should verify the default Normal mode before ranging. A frequent mistake is ranging reflective background objects instead of the intended target, so First and Last modes help isolate the correct distance. Tripod adaptability adds stability for extended glassing sessions.

Sustained field performance

Waterproof and shockproof construction with rubber armour and ArmorTek lens coatings protects the optics during prolonged exposure to rain, dust and recoil. The red OLED display remains legible in low light without washing out during long dawn or dusk sits. Four target modes and two ranging modes (HCD and LOS) maintain consistent angle-compensated readings across varied terrain, preventing the ranging errors that accumulate when a single mode is forced to cover every shot angle.

Questions about this item

How do I verify the Vortex Viper HD 3000 is ranging correctly after setup?

Range a target at a known distance and confirm the display shows the expected yardage within the 3,000-yard maximum. The red OLED readout should be sharp and the four target modes (Normal, First, Last, ELR) should cycle cleanly when the mode button is pressed.

What accessories come in the box with the Viper HD 3000 and what must I purchase separately?

Included are the rangefinder, soft carry case, wrist lanyard, bungee cord lanyard, lens cloth, utility clip, 2.5 mm hex wrench and a CR123 battery. No extra items are required for basic operation; a tripod adapter is optional for tripod mounting.

Which version of the Viper HD 3000 should I choose for my hunting needs?

The Viper HD 3000 is a single model (LRF-VP3000) with 7× magnification, 25 mm objective lens, 3,000-yard max range (2,000 yards on game), HCD and LOS ranging modes, and four target modes. Choose it if those specifications match your hunting distances and conditions.
