M.2 A+E Key to NVMe M-Key Adapter
This adapter connects an NVMe M-key SSD to a laptop's A+E key slot, which is normally reserved for wireless modules. It includes two small circuit boards and a flexible cable to bridge the physical gap. The kit supports M-key drives in 2230, 2242, 2260 and 2280 lengths. It is intended for users adding storage where no dedicated M-key slot exists.
Sustained PCIe Link Stability
The flexible cable carries PCIe signals between the mainboard and the drive, so signal integrity depends on cable routing and electromagnetic environment. Under continuous read or write loads the link remains at the negotiated PCIe generation rather than throttling due to the adapter itself. Thermal performance is dictated by the SSD controller and the laptop chassis airflow, not by the adapter boards.
NVMe Over A+E Key Constraint
The A+E key socket provides PCIe lanes but is mechanically keyed for wireless cards, so this adapter repurposes those lanes for NVMe storage only. It cannot operate with B-key or B+M-key SATA SSDs because the pinout and protocol differ. Boot support relies on the laptop BIOS recognising an NVMe device on the A+E port, which varies by platform.

Questions about this item
Does the EP-043-HX adapter add noticeable heat or power draw when an NVME SSD runs all day in the A+E slot?
The adapter is a passive PCB and cable assembly weighing .01 kg with no active components, so it adds negligible heat or power draw beyond the NVME drive itself.
What must my laptop already have for this EP-043-HX to work?
Your laptop needs a free M.2 2230 A+E-key slot that exposes a PCIe lane; the adapter cannot function in a B-key or M-key socket or with a SATA drive.
Will an older PCIe 3.0 NVME 2280 drive work correctly through this EP-043-HX adapter?
Yes, the adapter passes the PCIe signals through unchanged, so a PCIe 3.0 NVME 2280 drive will operate at its normal speed in the 2230 A+E slot.
