It enables the connection of U.2 storage devices to a desktop PC or server that lacks native U.2 support. The card operates at PCIe 4.0 x4 bandwidth and remains backward compatible with PCIe 3.0, 2.0 and 1.0 slots. No driver installation is required for Windows, Linux or macOS systems.

This adapter replaces the need for a motherboard with built-in U.2 connectors by adding the required SFF-8643 interface through a standard PCIe expansion slot. The upgrade is worthwhile when you want to install high-performance U.2 SSDs in a system that only offers PCIe slots. A separate SFF-8643 to SFF-8639 cable must be purchased to complete the link between the adapter and the drive.
