U.2 to M.2 NVMe adapter with cable
This adapter converts an M.2 M-Key NVMe SSD connection to an SFF-8643 Mini SAS interface. It enables connection of a 2.5-inch U.2 SSD to an M.2 slot using the included SFF-8639 to SFF-8643 cable. The assembly supports PCIe 4.0 and remains backwards compatible with PCIe 3.0. No drivers are required for current operating systems.
Signal integrity over 3.3 feet of cable
The 3.3-foot SFF-8639 to SFF-8643 cable provides a passive link between the expansion card and the U.2 drive. Data transfer operates at up to 64 GT/s under the PCIe 4.0 specification. As a passive interconnect, the adapter and cable draw no additional power beyond the drive itself. Thermal and acoustic characteristics are determined entirely by the installed SSD and host system airflow.
M.2 slot constraints and drive fit
The M.2 expansion card accepts M-Key modules in 2260 and 2280 form factors. The SFF-8643 connector on the card mates with the supplied cable for the U.2 drive end. Builders must ensure the motherboard M.2 slot provides sufficient PCIe lanes and physical clearance for the card. Systems lacking an M.2 M-Key slot or requiring a different drive form factor cannot use this adapter.

Questions about this item
How do I install the M-Key M.2 to SFF-8643 expansion card and which step is often missed?
Insert the M.2 2260 or 2280 NVMe SSD into the M-Key slot on the card, secure it with the mounting screw, then connect the included SFF-8643 to SFF-8639 cable between the card and the U.2 drive; the step often missed is fully seating the M.2 screw so the drive makes solid electrical contact.
What maintenance or replacement will the SFF-8643 to SFF-8639 cable need over time?
The 3.3FT cable is passive and has no moving parts, so it requires no scheduled maintenance; replace it only if the connectors become loose, pins bend, or signal errors appear after repeated insertion cycles.
What is the first limit that appears when running sustained transfers at 64GT/s over the 3.3FT link?
The cable length and passive construction set the practical ceiling; at 3.3 feet the signal integrity margin for PCIe 4.0 64GT/s is tight, so sustained heavy loads may hit bit-error limits before thermal or controller limits do.
