Six-metre USB-C 3.2 Gen 2 cable

This six-metre USB-C 3.2 Gen 2 cable carries data, video and up to 100 W of power through a male-to-male Type-C connection. It suits laptop owners who need a single long lead for docking, charging and external displays without swapping cables.

Interface speed and video limits

The cable reaches 20 Gbps only when both host and device support USB 3.2 Gen 2×2, USB4 or Thunderbolt 3 or 4; otherwise the link falls back to USB 3.1, 3.0 or 2.0 speeds. Video output tops out at 4K 60 Hz and requires that both ends implement DisplayPort Alt Mode over USB-C.

Capacity and headroom

At 100 W the cable powers most ultraportables and many 15-inch laptops, but it cannot supply larger workstations that demand more than 100 W. The six-metre length adds convenient reach for desk-to-monitor runs, yet the longer run increases resistance so the highest charge rates may only be sustained with high-quality 100 W adapters.

Questions about this item

Should I pick the 6 metre length or a shorter cable for my desk setup?

The cable is 6 metres long, so choose it only if you need that reach; a shorter cable will be easier to manage on a typical desk.

What does the 20 Gbps rating actually deliver when I copy files between my laptop and an external SSD?

You will see up to 20 Gbps only when both the host port and the drive support USB 3.2 Gen 2×2, USB4 or Thunderbolt 3/4; otherwise the transfer runs at the lower speed of the slowest link.

How does the USB 3.2 Gen 2 interface limit video output on a 4K monitor?

The interface carries DisplayPort Alt Mode, allowing 4K at 60 Hz, but it cannot drive higher resolutions or refresh rates beyond that bandwidth ceiling.
