Vszerda USB-C to DisplayPort 1.4 cable

This 1 m cable connects a USB-C source that supports DisplayPort Alt Mode to a DisplayPort monitor. It carries DisplayPort 1.4 signals with HBR3 bandwidth up to 32.4 Gbps. The link is uni-directional from USB-C to DisplayPort only. It suits MacBook Pro, Dell XPS and other hosts with Thunderbolt 3 or 4 ports.

DisplayPort 1.4 HBR3 practical limits

The cable delivers 8K at 60 Hz with 10-bit HDR or 4K at 144 Hz when the host and monitor both support those modes. DSC 1.2 compression up to 3:1 enables visually lossless transmission at the highest rates. Lower resolutions such as 2560x1440 can reach 240 Hz. All modes require Alt Mode on the source side.

Uni-directional USB-C to DisplayPort

This adapter works only from a USB-C port with DP Alt Mode to a DisplayPort display. It cannot drive a USB-C monitor from a native DisplayPort output. Buyers needing the reverse direction or a bi-directional cable must choose a different product.

Questions about this item

Should I choose the 1 m length or a longer version for my desk setup?

The cable is 1 m (3.3 ft) long. That length suits typical desktop distances between a laptop and a monitor.

Will the 32.4 Gbps bandwidth actually deliver 8K 60 Hz on my Thunderbolt 4 laptop?

Yes, 32.4 Gbps matches DisplayPort 1.4 HBR3. With DSC 1.2 compression it can drive 7680x4320 at 60 Hz 10-bit HDR from a Thunderbolt 4 or Thunderbolt 3 host that supports DP Alt Mode.

Does the USB-C connector carry Thunderbolt 4 or just USB 3.1 video?

The cable works with Thunderbolt 4, Thunderbolt 3 and USB4 hosts that implement DP Alt Mode. It is not bi-directional, so it only runs from a USB-C source to a DisplayPort display.
