Vszerda USB-C Fast Ethernet Adapter

This USB-C 2.0 adapter adds a 10/100 Mbps RJ45 port to laptops, tablets or other USB-C devices. It uses the Realtek RTL8152 chipset and draws power from the USB bus. The black plastic housing is compact and requires no external power supply.

Suits devices without built-in Ethernet

It works with Windows 8.1 and newer, Mac OS X 10.9 and newer, Linux, Chrome OS, Android 2.1 through 4.0 and Windows CE 5.0/6.0 without driver installation. Older Windows versions may need a driver. Buyers who need gigabit wired speeds should choose a different product.

USB 2.0 limits throughput to 100 Mbps

The adapter negotiates 10 or 100 Mbps automatically and supports Wake-on-LAN and IEEE 802.3x flow control. Because the host link is USB 2.0 at 480 Mbps, the practical ceiling is 100 Mbps full duplex.

Questions about this item

Does the RTL8152 chipset need any firmware updates or driver reinstallation after a major OS upgrade?

The adapter is driver-free on Windows 8 and Mac OS X 10.9 or newer; older systems may need a one-time driver install but no firmware updates are involved.

Will the USB 2.0 480 Mbps bus limit sustained throughput below the 100 Mbps Ethernet rating?

The 480 Mbps USB 2.0 bus provides ample headroom for the 100 Mbps Fast Ethernet link, so the Ethernet port remains the bottleneck under continuous load.

How warm does the black plastic case get when the adapter runs at 100 Mbps all day?

The low-power RTL8152 chipset and USB 2.0 operation keep heat minimal; the case stays only slightly warm during extended full-speed use.
