A 5-inch backing pad with round-hole fastening and a 5/8-11 clamping nut secures resin-fibre discs while airflow through the nut reduces heat buildup during weld removal and blending
This Walter Surface Technologies backing pad assembly supports 5 inch abrasive sanding discs during finishing work. It is designed for use with Coolcut and Topcut resin fiber discs. The impact-resistant plastic construction helps during weld removal and blending tasks. The pad mounts securely to compatible pneumatic or hydraulic tools.
The orange backing pad features a round armor hole fastener with a 5/8-11 inch clamping nut. This design creates space behind the sanding disc to promote airflow. Improved airflow dissipates excess heat generated during operation. Cooler running protects the abrasive disc and supports consistent performance.
The mountable pad provides flexible backing that conforms to curved surfaces for a finer finish. It replaces worn or damaged backing pads on existing finishing tools. The upgrade is worth it when the current pad no longer holds discs securely or heat buildup affects disc life. This assembly is not for tools requiring different disc diameters or fastening thread patterns.

Thread the 5/8-11 clamping nut onto the sander spindle, place the orange backing pad against the nut, then tighten the round armor hole fastener until the pad seats firmly against the disc.
The impact-resistant plastic back pad and the round armor hole fastener are the consumable components; replace them when the pad surface cracks, loses flexibility, or the fastener threads strip.
The 5/8-11 clamping nut creates an airflow gap behind the disc; sustained high-pressure grinding can still overwhelm that cooling, causing the pad to soften or the disc to glaze.
