What Mortal Kombat XL delivers

Mortal Kombat XL is a PlayStation 4 fighting game rated M for Mature. It includes the base experience plus brand new playable characters such as the Xenomorph from Alien, Leatherface from The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Triborg and Bo'Rai Cho. The package also adds the never released Apocalypse Skin Pack alongside previously released playable characters. Players who want a broader roster on PS4 will find it here.

Thermals noise and power draw

As a disc based video game Mortal Kombat XL produces no measurable heat or acoustic output of its own. Power consumption is limited to the normal operation of the PlayStation 4 console while the disc is read. There are no additional cooling or power supply requirements beyond what the console already provides. The software runs within the standard thermal envelope of the platform.

Bundled content impact

The extra fighters expand match up variety and let players test new move sets without separate purchases. The Apocalypse Skin Pack adds visual options for existing characters that were not available before. Previously released characters are included on the disc so no extra downloads are needed to access them. Buyers who only want the original roster will not benefit from the added content.

Questions about this item

How do I install Mortal Kombat XL on my PlayStation 4, and what step do people often miss?

Insert the disc; the PS4 copies data to the hard drive automatically. The step many skip is waiting for the install bar to finish before launching, otherwise the game runs from the slower optical drive.

What maintenance or replacement will the Mortal Kombat XL disc need later?

The Blu-ray disc itself needs no scheduled maintenance; store it in its case away from heat and sunlight. If the disc becomes too scratched to read, the only fix is buying a replacement copy.

What limit appears first during extended play sessions of Mortal Kombat XL?

The console's thermal throttling is the first hard limit; after prolonged fights the PS4 fan ramps up and may reduce clock speeds to protect the APU, not the game code.
