A handheld 1D linear imager scanner reads barcodes up to 25 cm away and 8.25 cm wide at 45 scans per second via USB
The Wasp WCS3900 is a corded handheld barcode scanner built for light retail, library and office workflows. It reads common 1D linear barcodes using a CCD imager and connects directly through a USB interface with the included cable. No driver installation is required, so the scanner behaves like a keyboard input the moment it is plugged in. The yellow-and-black ABS housing weighs 0.28 lb without the cable.
Under continuous operation the scanner draws less than 95 mA at 5 VDC and delivers a decode rate of 100 scans per second. The CCD engine captures 45 scans per second with a 660 nm red LED illumination source. The scan field extends from contact to 25.00 cm depth and covers a maximum barcode width of 3.25 inches (8.25 cm). One-touch triggering keeps repetitive scanning efficient during long shifts.
This scanner replaces keyboard-based data entry for single-line barcodes up to 3.25 inches wide. The jump is worth it when accuracy and speed matter more than the cost of a basic imager. It does not suit users who need 2D code reading, wireless freedom or ruggedised housings for harsh industrial environments. Hands-free operation requires an optional stand not included in the box.

The scanner idles under 30 mA and draws under 95 mA while operating at 5 VDC, so heat and power use stay minimal even with continuous use.
It ships with a 6-foot USB cable and connects directly to a standard USB port — no extra adapters or PS/2 cable required unless you choose that interface instead.
Yes — it outputs keystrokes over USB just like a keyboard wedge, reads common 1D symbologies out of the box, and needs no driver installation on the host.
