Triple 4K docking station for USB-C laptops

The Wavlink WL-UMD08 connects a laptop with a full-featured USB-C or Thunderbolt 3/4 port to three external displays using two HDMI 2.0 outputs and one DisplayPort 1.4 output. It is aimed at professionals who need extended desktop space for tasks such as programming, design review or financial analysis. The integrated 50 cm host cable keeps the unit close to the computer without extra cabling.

Aluminium finish with twelve integrated ports

The enclosure provides two USB-A 5 Gbps ports, two USB-A 480 Mbps ports, a Gigabit Ethernet jack, a TRRS 3.5 mm audio combo jack and an SD/Micro SD 3.0 card reader that accepts one card at a time. An upstream USB-C port accepts up to 100 W Power Delivery input and passes up to 85 W to the host laptop, so the dock powers the computer while driving peripherals and displays.

MST limits and Mac single-display constraint

Windows systems use Multi-Stream Transport to extend three independent 4K images; a single HDMI or DisplayPort can reach 4K at 60 Hz, two monitors drop to 4K at 30 Hz, and three monitors run at dual 4K 30 Hz plus 1080p 60 Hz. Intel-based Macs and Apple silicon Macs can only extend one external monitor regardless of the dock’s capabilities. The SD and Micro SD slots cannot operate simultaneously.

Questions about this item

What resolution and refresh rate does the DisplayPort 1.4 output support when a single monitor is connected?

A single DisplayPort 1.4 connection can drive one monitor at 4K 60Hz when the host supports DSC.

What is the length of the integrated host cable and what clearance does it need behind the laptop?

The built-in USB-C cable is 50 cm long, so allow at least that much space behind the port for a clean bend.

Does the dock need any driver installation on Windows before the three video outputs become active?

Windows uses the native DisplayPort Alt Mode driver; just plug the dock into a full-featured USB-C port and the displays appear.
