Target Device and Purpose

This 12V AC/DC adapter is built for the SmartDisk FireLite FWFL120-N 120 GB USB 2.0 portable external hard drive. It replaces a lost or damaged original power supply so the drive can spin up and transfer data. The unit is new and carries FCC, CE and RoHS certification.

Cable Length and Protection Features

A 6.5 ft power cord gives flexible placement between the wall outlet and the drive enclosure. Built-in safeguards include over-current, over-voltage, short-circuit and total-power protection plus a smart chip for thermal management. The adapter accepts 100-240VAC at 50/60Hz for worldwide use.

Capacity Limits and Compatibility Constraints

The adapter delivers the 12V DC input the specified FireLite model requires and is not adjustable for other voltages. It suits only the FWFL120-N 120 GB drive; different capacities, interfaces or brands will not be supported. Buyers needing power for larger desktop drives or multi-bay enclosures should look elsewhere.

Questions about this item

Will the 6.5 ft power cord need replacing if it frays?

The cord is a fixed part of the adapter and cannot be swapped separately; a damaged cord means replacing the whole unit.

What limits continuous operation of the 12 V output?

Over current, over voltage and short circuit protections will shut the adapter down before the output exceeds its design limits.

How much heat does the adapter produce when powering the 120 GB drive all day?

The built-in overheating protection and smart chip keep temperatures in check during extended use.
