Questions about this item

Does the 135 W adapter run hot or draw much power when left plugged in all day?

The unit accepts 100-240 VAC at 50/60 Hz and includes over-current, over-voltage, short-circuit and total-power protection to limit heat and waste during continuous use.

What must I already own for this charger to work with my HP laptop?

You need an HP notebook that uses the original 481420-001 or 481420001 19 V 7.1 A barrel connector; the 10 ft cord reaches the wall outlet.

Will this 19 V 7.1 A supply work alongside the older HP brick I still use for travel?

Yes, both deliver the same 19 V output, so either can power the laptop safely as long as the tip matches the 481420-001 specification.
