WD-40 Specialist Penetrant 13.5 oz

This fast-acting penetrant uses capillary action to reach deep into crevices, threads and seams, breaking rust bonds that hold stuck parts together. The low-odour formula works on contact to free rusted nuts, bolts, threads, locks and chains while leaving a protective layer that helps prevent rust and corrosion from re-forming.

Mechanics and DIY users freeing seized fasteners

The flexible straw gives unlimited access to hard-to-reach areas, making it ideal for maintenance on nuts, bolts, pipe threads, locks and chains. It is not suited for buyers who need a heavy-duty lubricant for high-load bearings or a non-flammable option for use near open flames or hot surfaces.

Simple spray application with flexible straw

Shake the can well, attach the flexible straw and spray directly onto the rusted component, allowing time for the penetrant to work. The flammable formula requires use in a well-ventilated area away from ignition sources, and overspray on painted surfaces should be wiped off promptly to avoid potential damage.

Questions about this item

Do I need a separate applicator to use the flexible straw on this 13.5 oz can?

The proprietary flexible straw is built into the can, so no extra applicator is required to reach tight spots.

Can this penetrant be applied safely on older rusted bolts without damaging surrounding paint or plastic?

The low-odour formula targets rust bonds on contact and leaves a protective layer, but avoid prolonged contact with painted or plastic surfaces.

How can I confirm the product is flowing properly through the flexible straw after first use?

Spray a short burst; a steady stream through the adjustable straw shows the capillary-action formula is reaching threads and crevices.
