Adds two SATA ports with RAID 0 or 1 support via a PCI 2.2 slot using the Sil3112 chipset at 1.5 Gb/s
This controller card adds two Serial ATA Gen 1 connectors to a desktop system through a standard PCI slot. It uses the Silicon Image Sil3112 chipset and presents RAID 0 or RAID 1 functions alongside non-RAID drives. The card targets owners of older workstations or servers that lack onboard SATA ports but still run Windows 2000 through Windows 7.
The host bus tops out at the PCI Rev 2.2 ceiling while the drive links negotiate at SATA Rev 1.0, giving a maximum data rate of 1.5 Gb/s or 150 MB/s. Mechanical hard drives from that era will saturate the link, but any modern solid-state drive will be bottlenecked by the interface. The practical throughput ceiling is fixed by the generation 1 specification.
The Sil3112 firmware allows a RAID set to combine drives of different capacities, letting builders pair whatever spare disks are on hand. Only striping (RAID 0) and mirroring (RAID 1) are supported, so users needing parity-based redundancy or JBOD spanning must look elsewhere.

The Sil3112 chipset supports RAID 0 striping for speed or RAID 1 mirroring for redundancy, and you can mix a RAID set with a non-RAID drive on the same card
SATA Gen 1 caps throughput at 150 MB/s so mechanical drives will hit their natural limit while SSDs will be bottlenecked by the link
The board plugs into a PCI Rev 2.2 slot and the Sil3112 controller runs at SATA Rev 1.0 speeds
