Westcott iPoint Evolution Electric Sharpener

The Westcott 14888 iPoint Evolution is an electric pencil sharpener designed for graphite pencils. Its vertical orientation saves desk space while providing a natural sharpening motion. The unit suits students, artists, and office workers who need consistent points without manual effort. A clear shavings reservoir lets you monitor fill level at a glance.

Thermals, noise and power draw

The sharpener runs on standard mains power and operates only while a pencil is inserted. An auto-stop mechanism halts the motor once the tip is formed, preventing over-sharpening and reducing unnecessary run time. This intermittent duty cycle keeps the motor cool and limits audible noise to brief sharpening moments. The lightweight 0.39 kg chassis stays stable on the desk during use.

Titanium bonded blade and reservoir

Proprietary titanium bonded blades stay sharp longer than conventional steel, extending the interval between blade replacements. The EZ-view reservoir lifts off for quick emptying without tools or mess. A Good Design Award received in 2009 recognises the combined vertical layout, blade durability and transparent reservoir as a cohesive improvement over traditional sharpeners.

Questions about this item

How do I install the Westcott 14888 iPoint Evolution on my desk, and what step do people often get wrong?

Place the unit on a stable surface and plug it into a mains outlet; the step users miss is ensuring the clear shavings reservoir is fully clicked into the black base before the first use, otherwise the auto-stop sensor will not engage.

What maintenance or replacement will the Westcott 14888 iPoint Evolution need later?

Empty the clear shavings reservoir whenever the EZ-view window shows it is full; the titanium-bonded blade is designed to stay sharp longer, but if it eventually dulls the whole sharpener is replaced rather than the blade alone.

What limit appears first during sustained use of the Westcott 14888 iPoint Evolution?

The shavings reservoir fills before the motor overheats, so the practical limit is how many pencils you can sharpen before pausing to empty the clear container.
