Pentium 4 desktop with 27" display

This Western Digital desktop PC ships new with Windows XP Home pre-installed. A Pentium 4 processor running at 3.0 GHz is paired with 512 MB of DDR memory. Storage combines a 40 GB hard drive and an 8 GB solid-state drive. The integrated 27 inch screen uses Intel Extreme Graphics 2 for video output.

Check power and peripheral connections

Verify that your mains supply matches the unit's requirements before connecting. Ensure you have the correct video cable for the built-in 27 inch display if an external monitor is needed. Confirm that any legacy peripherals use compatible ports such as PS/2 or serial, as modern USB devices may require additional drivers under Windows XP Home.

Suits retro computing and legacy software

This system suits enthusiasts running period-correct applications or older games that require Windows XP Home and a Pentium 4 architecture. Buyers who need more storage, faster multi-core processing, modern operating system support, or current graphics APIs should look at something else. The 512 MB memory limit and integrated graphics also restrict multitasking and high-resolution video playback.

Questions about this item

What comes with the 27" desktop and what must I buy separately?

The system includes a Pentium 4 3.0 GHz CPU, 512MB DDR memory, 40GB HDD, 8GB SSD, Intel Extreme Graphics 2 and Windows XP Home pre-installed. Peripherals such as keyboard, mouse and speakers are not included.

Should I choose the 40GB HDD or the 8GB SSD for my main drive?

Use the 8GB SSD for the operating system and essential programmes to benefit from faster access times; the 40GB HDD is better suited for bulk file storage.

How does the Pentium 4 3.0 GHz perform in everyday tasks on this machine?

The 3.0 GHz Pentium 4 with 512MB DDR handles basic office applications and web browsing on Windows XP Home, but will struggle with modern multitasking or video playback.
