Portable SSD for mobile creators

The SanDisk Portable SSD delivers up to 800MB/s read speeds over USB 3.2 Gen 2 in a compact form factor. It targets photographers and videographers who need fast, reliable external storage for field work and quick offloads. Write speeds are lower and actual performance depends on the host device and usage conditions. The drive ships new with updated firmware.

Sustained transfer behaviour

Solid-state architecture maintains consistent throughput during long sequential reads without the thermal throttling seen in mechanical drives. Performance scales with the host USB 3.2 Gen 2 interface and may vary across different systems or cable lengths. The 1TB capacity provides ample space for extended shooting sessions. No active cooling is required for typical workloads.

Installation and common issues

Connection is a single USB-C cable with no external power or driver installation needed on modern operating systems. The integrated rubber hook secures the drive to bags or belts, reducing accidental disconnects. Two-meter drop protection guards against physical shocks during transport. Compatibility requires a host port supporting USB 3.2 Gen 2 for full rated speed.

Questions about this item

How much heat or noise does the SanDisk Portable SSD produce when running continuously all day?

The drive has no moving parts and no fan, so it runs silently and generates minimal heat during sustained use.

What host port and cable must I already have to reach the 800 MB/s read speed?

You need a USB-C port that supports USB 3.2 Gen 2 (10 Gbps) and a matching USB-C cable.

Will the drive work reliably when plugged into an older laptop that only has USB 3.0 Type-A ports?

Yes — it is backward compatible with USB 3.0 and USB 2.0, though speeds will drop to the older port's limit.
