Green 3.5 inch SATA hard drive with silver label

Western Digital

Western Digital WD20EADS 2 TB 5400 RPM 32 MB 3.5" SATA internal hard drive

SKU CH-PY9B-Y0J0M

A 2 TB 3.5" SATA desktop drive spinning at 5400 RPM with a 32 MB cache

  • 2 TB capacity stores large media libraries
  • 5400 RPM spindle reduces power draw and noise
  • 32 MB cache buffers frequent read requests
  • SATA 3 Gb/s interface fits standard desktop bays
  • 5 inch form factor matches common drive cages

What this drive is

The Western Digital WD20EADS is a 2000 GB desktop hard drive that spins at 5400 RPM and connects through a SATA 3 Gb/s interface. It carries a 32 MB cache and fits a standard 3.5 inch bay, making it a basic bulk-storage device for a desktop PC.

Who it suits and who it does not

This drive suits builders who need inexpensive capacity for media libraries, backups or archival files where sustained throughput is not critical. It is not for users who want an operating-system drive or any workload that demands low latency and high random-access performance.

Installation notes

Mounting uses the usual 3.5 inch screw pattern and the drive draws power from a standard SATA connector, so fitting it is straightforward in any desktop case with a free bay. The only common issue is that some older BIOS revisions may not recognise the full 2000 GB capacity without a firmware update.

Questions about this item

Will the 3.5" SATA 3Gb/s drive work in my desktop case that only has 3.5-inch bays and a standard SATA power connector?

Yes, the drive fits any standard 3.5-inch bay and connects with ordinary SATA data and power cables.

Does the 3 Gb/s interface run without changes on a motherboard that only has SATA II ports?

The SATA 3Gb/s link is electrically compatible with SATA II ports and will operate at the port's native speed.

How can I confirm the 2000 GB capacity and 32 MB cache are recognised after installation?

Check BIOS or Disk Management; both should list 2000 GB total space and the drive will report a 32 MB buffer.
