Capacity and interface

This Western Digital WD40EZRX is a 4TB 3.5-inch desktop hard drive that connects through a SATA 6.0Gb/s interface. It uses IntelliPower variable-speed technology and a 64MB cache to deliver cool, quiet operation for bulk storage.

Compatibility checks

Verify that your system has a free 3.5-inch drive bay and an available SATA data port on the motherboard or controller. Ensure the power supply includes a spare SATA power connector for the drive. Confirm the operating system supports volumes of this capacity.

Upgrade perspective

The drive replaces smaller-capacity SATA mechanical disks when more space is needed for media libraries, backups or archival data. The jump is worth it when current storage is full and the priority is low noise and reduced power draw over maximum throughput.

Questions about this item

Does the bare drive ship with cables or mounting hardware?

The WD40EZRX is supplied as a bare drive only; SATA data and power cables plus 3.5" mounting screws must be sourced separately.

Should I choose the 4TB 5400RPM model or a smaller capacity for quieter operation?

IntelliPower keeps the 4TB Green drive cool and quiet at 5400RPM, so capacity does not increase noise — pick 4TB when you need the space.

Will the SATA 6.0Gb/s interface actually deliver 6.0Gb/s throughput in my desktop?

The drive supports the 6.0Gb/s SATA link, but real-world transfer rates are limited by the 5400RPM platters and 64MB cache, not the interface ceiling.
