Suited for bulk data and archival

This drive suits users who need affordable, high-capacity storage for backups, media libraries or secondary data volumes. Builders requiring faster random access for operating systems or frequent transactional workloads should consider higher-speed alternatives.

Questions about this item

How much power does the WD5000AADS draw during all-day operation?

The 5400 RPM spindle and 32 MB cache keep power draw low, making the drive suitable for continuous use in a desktop or home-server chassis.

Does the WD5000AADS need any special cabling or controller to work?

It connects with a standard SATA 3 Gb/s data cable and a SATA power connector from the PSU; no extra controller is required.

Will the WD5000AADS work alongside an older IDE drive on the same motherboard?

The drive uses a native SATA interface, so it runs independently of any legacy IDE channel and does not share bandwidth with older drives.
