6 TB CMR drive for NAS

The Western Digital WD60EFPX is a 6 TB desktop hard drive built with CMR recording technology and a 256 MB cache. It spins at 5400 RPM over a SATA 6.0 Gb/s interface and is designed for 24/7 operation in small to medium NAS enclosures. The 3.5 inch form factor fits standard drive bays in home-office and business systems.

Check SATA ports and bay clearance

Verify that your NAS or server has a free SATA data port and a matching power connector before ordering. The drive measures 147.00 mm long, 101.60 mm wide and 26.10 mm high, so confirm the bay can accept a 3.5 inch unit of that height. Ensure the system firmware and RAID controller support drives up to 6 TB capacity.

Low power draw for cooler operation

WD Red Plus drives are engineered to use less power than previous models, helping to reduce heat inside a fully populated chassis. The 5400 RPM spindle speed keeps acoustic output low during continuous background workloads. NASware firmware tunes drive parameters for RAID environments, promoting stable performance and lower operating temperatures in 24/7 use.

Questions about this item

Does the WD60EFPX come with any cables or mounting hardware in the box?

The drive is supplied as a bare 3.5" unit; SATA data and power cables plus mounting screws are not included and must be sourced separately.

Should I choose this 6TB model or a different capacity from the 1-14TB range for my NAS?

Pick the 6TB version when you need roughly six terabytes of CMR storage in a single bay; scale up to 14TB for more capacity per slot or down to 1TB for lighter workloads.

What does the 180 TB/yr workload rating mean for daily use in my NAS?

It means the drive is engineered to sustain a total of 180 terabytes of read and write activity per year in a 24/7 multi-bay NAS without exceeding its design limits.
