Forged-steel aviation snip set with left and right cutters, serrated edges and cushioned grips for 18-gauge sheet metal
The Westward 4YP54 set includes left-cut and right-cut aviation snips designed for cutting sheet metal up to 18 gauge thickness. Each snip measures 9 3/4 inches in overall length with a 1 1/4 inch cutting edge. Forged steel blades feature serrated edges to grip material during the cut. Ergonomic cushioned grips in blue and red identify the cutting direction.
Maximum cutting capacity is 18 gauge sheet metal; thicker material will exceed the tool's leverage and blade strength. The 1 1/4 inch cutting length restricts the depth of each bite, requiring multiple cuts for long straight lines. Serrated edges hold thin stock but can mark softer metals. Left and right models only; no straight-cut snip is included for centre-out patterns.
No assembly is required; the snips are ready to use from the package. The most frequent problem is applying excessive force on material beyond the 18 gauge rating, which can spring the blades or damage the pivot. Users sometimes select the wrong handed snip for the cut direction, causing the metal to bind and distort. California Proposition 65 warnings apply to this product.
