Practical limits of the NEMA and IP ratings

The enclosure withstands non-hazardous indoor and outdoor conditions including falling dirt, dripping water, light splashing and oil or coolant seepage. It is not rated for submersion, high-pressure wash-down or hazardous-location atmospheres, so installations requiring NEMA 4X, 6 or explosion-proof classifications must use a different enclosure series.
