What this enclosure is and who it fits

The Wiegmann RSC040604 is a wall-mount carbon-steel enclosure rated NEMA 3R for outdoor rain and sleet protection. It suits installers who need a compact junction or breaker box with a solid screw-on cover and padlockable hasp for security. The 16-gauge body carries CSA and cULus certification.

Practical limits of the NEMA 3R rating

NEMA 3R shields against falling rain, sleet and external ice formation but does not protect against blown dust, hose-directed water or temporary submersion. The usable opening depth is 3.88 inches, so internal components must fit within that space. The ANSI 61 powder coat resists corrosion in standard industrial atmospheres.

Installation notes and common issues

The enclosure ships with mounting screws and a screw cover for straightforward wall attachment. Ensure the mounting surface is flat to maintain the gasket seal; uneven walls can compromise the rain-tight rating. The padlockable hasp accepts standard shackles, but verify shackle diameter before purchase.

Questions about this item

Should I choose the 4-inch-wide model or a wider enclosure for my components?

This unit provides a 4-inch width and 3.88-inch usable depth; select a wider model only if your internal parts exceed those dimensions.

What does the NEMA 3R rating mean once the enclosure is installed on a wall?

NEMA 3R protects against falling rain, sleet and external ice formation, making it suitable for outdoor wall mounting.

How does the 16-gauge carbon steel construction affect the enclosure's rigidity?

16-gauge steel gives a sturdy, screw-covered body that resists deformation while remaining light enough for single-person mounting.
