Shear-cut cable cutter handles copper, aluminium and communication cable up to 2 in diameter with a 31-1/2 in forged, oil-hardened frame
The Wiha Tools 40800 is a shear-cut cable cutter with an overall length of 31-1/2 inches. It is built for electricians and line workers who need to sever copper, aluminium or communication cables up to 2 inches in diameter. Drop-forged, oil-hardened jaws provide a clean cut without distorting the conductor.
The tool meets EN/IEC 60900, ASTM 1505, VDE 0682 Part 201, NFPA 70E, CSA and OSHA 29 CFR 1910 standards for insulated hand tools. This certification means the dipped handles maintain their protective rating during repeated use on live circuits up to the rated voltage. The shear action reduces the force required for each cut, limiting operator fatigue over long shifts.
This cutter is not designed for ACSR or steel-reinforced conductors, so verify the cable type on the job site. The 2-inch maximum capacity applies to copper, aluminium and communication cables only. California Proposition 65 warnings indicate the presence of chemicals known to cause cancer and reproductive harm. Ensure your safety programme accounts for this notice.

The 31-1/2 inch length gives high leverage so each cut needs less hand force than shorter cutters, and the drop-forged, oil-hardened blades keep their edge through repeated 2 inch copper cuts.
You need insulated gloves, eye protection and voltage-rated footwear that meet NFPA 70E and OSHA 29 CFR 1910 requirements for the incident-energy level at the work site.
The dipped handles provide a secure, non-slip grip and meet VDE 0682/201 and IEC 60900 insulation standards, so they remain comfortable and safe alongside older non-insulated tools.
