Materials and Comfort

Each pad uses a protein leather surface over a memory sponge core measuring approximately 100 by 80 by 28 millimetres. The materials stay flexible during long listening sessions and are designed not to alter the headphone's sound signature. Protein leather resists cracking with daily wear.

Upgrade Context

These pads replace worn, flattened or torn original cushions on the listed Sony models. The memory sponge restores the original seal and comfort when the factory pads have lost their shape. They are not suitable for other headphone series or for buyers needing a different mounting style.

Questions about this item

How do I install the ear pads on the MDR-ZX780 and what step is often missed?

Stretch each pad over the ear-cup rim until the inner lip seats fully in the groove; the step people miss is checking that the lip is seated evenly all round so the pad does not rotate.

What maintenance or replacement will the memory-sponge pads need later?

The sponge and protein-leather surface absorb skin oils and compress over time; plan to replace the pair when the pads no longer spring back to 28 mm thickness or the covering shows cracking.

What comfort limit appears first during long listening sessions?

The 28 mm pad thickness and 100 mm diameter determine clamping pressure; after several hours the fixed sponge density can create heat buildup and pressure points on the jaw.
