Wooster Brush Company Z1120-1 1" Flat Sash Soft Paint Brush

Wooster 1" Flat Sash Brush

The Wooster Z1120-1 is a 1-inch flat sash paint brush designed for applying oil-based paints, polyurethane coatings, stains, and varnishes. It features soft white China bristle filament with a 7/16-inch thickness and 2 3/16-inch length. The plastic beavertail handle provides a comfortable grip for detailed trim and sash work on wood, metal, drywall, concrete, and brick surfaces. This brush suits both professional painters and DIYers tackling fine finishing tasks.

Natural Bristle Limits with Oil Coatings

Natural China bristle performs well with oil-based products but absorbs water, making it unsuitable for water-based latex paints. The soft stiffness holds a generous coating load for smooth flow on medium, rough, or smooth textures, yet it lacks the snap needed for heavy-bodied modern latex formulas. Cleanup requires mineral spirits or appropriate solvents rather than soap and water. Users working primarily with water-based finishes should select a synthetic filament brush instead.

Upgrade from Basic Trim Brushes

This brush replaces economy chip brushes or stiff nylon tools that leave visible brush marks on fine woodwork. The soft natural bristle tips lay off oil-based enamels and varnishes with fewer ridges, reducing sanding between coats. The jump is worth it when a glass-smooth finish on doors, windows, or cabinetry matters more than speed. For large wall areas or rough exterior siding, a wider brush or roller covers ground faster.
