Complete Stair Cable Railing Kit

This 36-inch black stair post kit provides a complete cable railing system for staircases between 15 and 25 feet. It includes six heavy-duty posts, 500 feet of 1/8-inch cable wire rope, all essential tensioners and hardware, plus the required crimper and cutter for a weekend installation.

Pre-Drilled Code-Compliant Posts

Each post features ten pairs of pre-drilled holes spaced exactly 3.5 inches apart to meet the standard 4-inch sphere test. An adjustable top bracket accommodates stair slopes from 25 to 35 degrees, ensuring a compliant fit without additional drilling.

Multi-Surface Mounting Hardware

The set supplies lag screws and concrete anchors for wood or concrete floors, plus self-drilling and machine screws for wood or metal handrails. Buyers needing longer cable runs beyond 500 feet or posts taller than 36 inches will require additional materials.

Questions about this item

How often will the 1/8-inch cable need retensioning after the staircase is in daily use?

Cable stretch depends on load cycles and temperature swings; plan to check tension at each season change and tighten the swage tensioners if the 3.5-inch spacing exceeds the 4-inch sphere allowance.

What component reaches its limit first when the 36-inch posts carry continuous load on a 25-to-35-degree stair run?

The 1/8-inch cable and its swage fittings set the working-load ceiling; the pre-drilled posts and supplied brackets are rated for the same span but the cable governs the maximum safe tension.

Will the black powder-coated posts and stainless hardware stay cool and quiet when exposed to sun all day on a 15-to-25-foot run?

The metal posts absorb solar heat but transfer minimal warmth to the handrail; no moving parts exist so operation is silent, and the stainless cable and tensioners do not generate heat under static load.
