Replacement PSU for Optiplex 3040 5040 7040

This 240W server power supply replaces the original D240ED-00, AC240EM-00, L240AM-00, H240EM-00 and B240EM-00 units found in Optiplex 3040, 5040 and 7040 desktops. It is a direct swap for systems that have lost power capacity or suffer from a failed unit. Builders needing a different form factor or higher wattage should look elsewhere.

Thermals, noise and power draw

The switching design delivers the rated 240W output while maintaining stable voltages for typical office workloads. Fan speed ramps with load, so the unit runs quietly during light use and increases airflow only when the system demands more power. Efficiency meets the expectations for a replacement part in this class.

Questions about this item

How do I install the 240W power supply in my Optiplex 3040, and which connector alignment do people often miss?

Slide the unit into the chassis until the latch clicks, then press the main 24-pin and 4-pin CPU power connectors firmly until each locks; the 4-pin CPU plug is the step most often left loose.

What maintenance will the 240W supply need later, and when should I replace the fan?

Clean dust from the intake grill every six months with compressed air; replace the internal fan if bearing noise appears or airflow drops noticeably.
