Adds five USB 2.0 ports via a PCI slot with four external and one internal connector
This PCI expansion card adds five USB 2.0 ports to a desktop computer using a single PCI slot. The NEC720101 chipset delivers 480 Mb/s high-speed and 12 Mb/s low-speed data rates. Four ports face the rear bracket and one port sits on the board for internal headers. The card supports hot-swapping and runs on Windows 98 through 10, Linux and DOS.
Builders restoring legacy systems or adding peripherals to older motherboards will find the broad OS support and simple PCI interface useful. Users needing USB 3.0 or 3.1 speeds, Type-C connectors or more than five ports should look elsewhere. The single-slot PCI design also limits use on boards without a free PCI slot.
The NEC720101 controller sets the maximum throughput at 480 Mb/s for high-speed devices and 12 Mb/s for low-speed devices. This bandwidth ceiling defines the card's suitability for keyboards, mice, printers and similar USB 2.0 gear. Faster storage or video capture devices will not reach their potential on this interface.

This model gives you four external USB 2.0 ports and one internal port on a single PCI bracket, so you only need one slot for five connections.
Each port runs at USB 2.0 high speed up to 480 Mb/s, but the PCI bus shares bandwidth across all five ports, so simultaneous transfers will divide that throughput.
The card fits a standard 5 V PCI slot and the chipset supports Windows 98 through 10, Linux and DOS without extra drivers.
