Voltage first, then chemistry, then capacity

With a replacement battery, match three things in order. Voltage must equal the original, such as 10.8 V, 14.4 V or 25.2 V. Chemistry should match too: lithium-ion and Ni-MH packs charge differently, and a charger designed for one can harm the other. Only then look at capacity in mAh; a higher figure can mean longer runtime but only if the pack physically fits, so compare its dimensions in millimeters and the connector style.

Bags, belts and filters: read the part number off the old one

Bags are shaped and sized for a vacuum series, often identified by a letter or number code; a bag that merely resembles yours may leak at the collar. Belts differ in length, width and profile, and a slack belt stops the brush roll. Filters come as washable foam, pleated paper or HEPA types; a washable one must dry completely before refitting. Search by the model number on the rating plate, not by appearance.

Questions about Vacuum Bags, Filters, Belts and Replacement Batteries

Can I use a higher-mAh battery than the original?
Often yes, if voltage, chemistry, connector and size all match. The extra capacity gives longer runtime, while a pack that is only close in voltage or shape may overheat or not seat. Choose the pack named for your model.
How do I know when a vacuum battery is worn out?
Signs are much shorter runtime, a battery that cuts out when the motor loads, or a charger that never shows full. A swollen or unusually hot pack should be taken out of use at once. Packs fade with charge cycles, so a new one often revives a cordless vacuum.
Are non-original vacuum bags and filters worth using?
A bag or filter that fits correctly and seals at the collar can do the same job as an original, although filtration quality varies, so look for a stated filtration level. Fit matters most: a loose seal lets dust past.
