Fluid, tablets or concentrate: what goes in the reservoir

Ready-mixed fluid pours straight in, and all-season versions state a freezing limit on the label. Tablets dissolve in a measured amount of water, take little space and suit warm weather; unless the pack says they protect against freezing, they do not. Plain water can freeze in the lines and crack the reservoir. Never pour coolant or dish soap into the system, as they can foam, streak or harm paint and rubber. Two-in-one formulas add a water repellent.

Nozzles are vehicle specific: side, model and year

Replacement nozzles are listed by make, model and year, and some are sold for the left or right side only, so check the position before ordering. Kits come in sets of two or more with the hose connectors. If the spray is weak or crooked, clear the opening with a fine pin first, then check the hose and the pump before replacing the nozzle.

Questions about Windshield Washer Fluid, Tablets and Nozzles

Can I use plain water in the washer reservoir in winter?
Not when temperatures drop below freezing. Ice can block the lines and split the reservoir. Choose a fluid with a freeze rating below the lowest temperature you expect.
How do washer tablets work?
Each tablet dissolves in a stated volume of water to make cleaning fluid. Follow the pack for the amount of water, and let the tablet dissolve fully before pouring so undissolved bits cannot clog the nozzles.
Why is my washer spray weak or off target?
A blocked nozzle is the usual cause, so clear it with a fine pin. Next check for a kinked or disconnected hose and listen for the pump. If the nozzle is worn or cracked, replace it with the right fit.
