Which job is it for: PC builds, network cabling or power checks?

Start with the job, because the piece count on a kit says little. A PC builder needs magnetic Phillips drivers, with the #1 and #2 sizes covering most case, drive and board screws, plus tweezers or a pick-up tool for dropped screws. Laptop and drive work adds smaller Phillips and Torx bits. Network jobs call for an RJ45 crimp tool and a punch-down tool; the 110 blade suits most patch panels and keystone jacks, and Krone is a different format. Diagnosing a dead machine calls for a digital multimeter or a PSU tester instead.

Static protection, and what a tester can and cannot prove

An anti-static wrist strap works when its clip sits on bare, unpainted metal, such as the case chassis or the ground point of an anti-static mat, and a strap tester confirms that the path to ground is intact. A PSU tester checks that each rail is present, shows the voltages on an LCD where fitted, and watches the power-good signal. It applies very little load, so a supply can pass and still fail in use. Cable testers find swapped or open wires, but they do not measure speed.

Questions about PC Repair Tools and Testers

Do I need an anti-static strap to build a PC?
Not strictly. Many builders simply touch bare case metal before handling parts. A strap is cheap insurance in dry rooms or on carpet, as long as its clip is on bare, unpainted metal and the cord is not trailing near moving fans.
Can a PSU tester prove a power supply is healthy?
It proves the rails are present and roughly in range with almost no load. It cannot show ripple, stability under gaming loads or faulty protection circuits, so treat a pass as a first check, not a clean bill of health.
Which punch-down blade do I need?
Most Ethernet patch panels and keystone jacks use 110-style blades, and some tools list both 110 and Krone blades. Check the termination type printed on your panel or jack, because the formats are not interchangeable.
