Nutromo 1500W PTC Space Heater 15.8 75° Oscillation Remote Control 25 dB 24H Timer 5 Modes
Watts, circuits and why most plug-in heaters stop at 1500 W
Plug-in heaters top out at 1500 W because a standard 15 A, 120 V household circuit supplies 1800 W at most and should not be run flat out for hours. A 1500 W heater leaves little spare capacity, so do not share its circuit with a kettle, hair dryer or second heater. Heat output follows watts, so a 750 W setting gives half the heat of 1500 W.
Ceramic PTC heaters warm up quickly, have a self-limiting element and often include a fan, an oscillation arc such as 70 degrees, a timer and a remote. Radiant and infrared heaters warm people directly in a small area, and oil-filled radiators give slower, steadier heat with no fan noise. Look for tip-over and overheat cut-offs, a thermostat, and a plug with a cord thick enough for the load.
Heater, warmer or sensor? Reading mixed listings
The department mixes products. Besides room heaters there are small warmers, such as helmet dryers, and K-type thermocouple probes and wires, which are temperature sensors that give out no heat. Thermocouples are listed by type, wire length and temperature range, for example 0 to 400 degrees C. Check that the title says heater or warmer and gives a wattage before comparing it with room heaters.
Questions about Space Heaters and Portable Warmers
- Ceramic fan heater or oil-filled radiator for a bedroom?
- Ceramic fan heaters warm a small room fast but make fan noise. Oil-filled radiators heat slowly, stay warm after switching off and run silently, so many people prefer them overnight. Either needs tip-over protection and clear space around it.
- How many square feet can a 1500 W heater warm?
- Roughly 150 square feet in a room with standard ceilings and reasonable insulation. Drafty, large or high-ceilinged rooms will not reach temperature. A heater is best used to warm the space you occupy, not a whole floor.
- Is it safe to leave a space heater on overnight?
- Use one with tip-over and overheat protection, put it on a hard floor away from bedding and curtains, and plug it directly into the wall. A thermostat or timer reduces run time. Many manufacturers advise against unattended use, so follow the manual.
