When tape beats fluid, and when it does not

Correction tape lays down an opaque film you can write over at once, with no shaking or drying time. Fluid covers heavier or darker marks in a thicker layer but needs a moment to dry and can thicken in the bottle. Correction pens give a fine, precise line or dot, while brush bottles cover larger areas. Keep caps closed and let fluid dry before writing.

Narrow tape for lines, wide tape for blocks

Tape widths run from about 1/6 inch, enough to cover a single line of text, up to half an inch for blocking out larger areas, and lengths are quoted in feet or inches, so compare them across packs. Refillable dispensers need cartridges that match the holder's model, and non-refillable ones are discarded when empty. Eraser refills are shaped for the holder they were made for, so check that the pack names your pencil or eraser.

Questions about Correction Tape, Pens and Erasers

Can I write over correction tape straight away?
Yes, tape is dry as soon as it is applied, so you can write immediately. Press the tip down and pull in a smooth line to get a clean edge. Fluid is different and usually needs several seconds to dry.
Are correction tape refills interchangeable between brands?
Rarely. Refill cartridges are shaped to fit one family of dispenser, and a cartridge from another maker may not seat or turn correctly. Buy the refill that names your dispenser model, or choose a disposable roller if you want no matching at all.
What is the difference between a correction pen and a bottle of fluid?
A pen has a fine metal or plastic tip that places a small, precise amount, good for single letters. A bottle with a brush covers wider areas faster but is harder to control and dries slower.
