PCI Gigabit Ethernet adapter with one RJ45 port supporting 10/100/1000 Mbps on 32- or 64-bit PCI and PCI-X buses
The 3Com 3C996B-T is a Gigabit Ethernet network card that fits both 32- or 64-bit PCI and PCI-X slots. It supports 10, 100 and 1000 Mbps speeds through a single RJ45 connector. Drivers are included for Linux, Windows XP, 2000 and NT 4.0, plus Novell NetWare, UnixWare, OpenServer and Sun Solaris x86.
This card suits administrators maintaining older servers that still rely on PCI or PCI-X buses and need a straightforward Gigabit link. It is not for builders who need Wake-on-LAN support, multi-port density or modern PCI Express connectivity.
The decisive specification is the single RJ45 port operating at up to 1000 Mbps on a PCI or PCI-X interface. If the target system lacks a compatible PCI or PCI-X slot, or requires more than one physical network connection, this card will not fit the requirement.

The package contains the network interface card, a quick start guide, and an installation CD with drivers, diagnostics, and the user's guide. No cables are included.
The card operates in 32-bit or 64-bit mode at 33 MHz, 66 MHz, 100 MHz, or 133 MHz on both PCI and PCI-X buses. Match the bus width and clock speed of your available slot.
On a 64-bit 66 MHz PCI or PCI-X bus the card delivers full 1000 Mbps line rate. On a 32-bit 33 MHz PCI bus the theoretical bus ceiling limits throughput below the Gigabit maximum.
