3M 2212 Butyl Mastic Tape

This tape is a high-tack, self-fusing butyl rubber mastic product designed to create water and humidity resistant seals. It maintains tack and flexibility in temperatures as cold as -18C. The single-sided black tape measures 2-1/2 in by 24 in and arrives new.

Suited for sealing and weatherproofing tasks

It suits installers needing a reliable seal against water, condensation, dust, UV, and sunlight, especially where overwrapping with vinyl tape is planned. It is not for buyers who need an adhesive that performs below -18C or a product supplied in a different width or length.

Self-fusing butyl rubber composition

The butyl mastic construction allows the tape to fuse to itself and form a continuous barrier without heat tools. This characteristic determines whether the tape matches the specific sealing requirement. Country of Origin: United States.

Questions about this item

What surface preparation is needed before applying the 3M 2212 Butyl Mastic Tape?

Can the 2-1/2 in wide tape be overwrapped with standard vinyl electrical tape?

Yes, the manufacturer highlights state it can be overwrapped with vinyl tape to create a reliable weatherproof seal against water, condensation, dust, UV and sunlight.

How can I confirm the seal is performing after installation?

Inspect the joint for a continuous, void-free bond; the tape should remain tacky and flexible down to 0F (-18C) with no water ingress or lifting at the edges.
