Double-Sided Foam Tape for Assembly

3M 4492 is a white polyethylene foam tape supplied on a continuous roll. It is intended for assembly, manufacturing, construction and general maintenance tasks. The tape works indoors and outdoors across a temperature range of 50 to 180 degrees Fahrenheit. A liner is included for easy handling.

Temperature Range and Roll Format

The foam performs reliably from a minimum of 50 degrees F up to a maximum of 180 degrees F. Its continuous-roll construction lets users cut exact lengths without waste. No mechanical fasteners or curing time are required, keeping the work area quiet and clean during normal use.

Indoor and Outdoor Mounting Flexibility

The 2-inch width by 5-yard length roll suits bonding, sealing and gap-filling jobs on a variety of surfaces. It frees up tool time by eliminating drilling or screwing steps. The product is restricted from sale in certain states, so verify local availability before planning a project.

Questions about this item

How do I install the 3M 4492 tape and what step is often missed?

Clean both surfaces, remove the included liner, apply the 2 in wide tape firmly, and press along the full 5 yd length to activate the adhesive bond.

What maintenance or replacement will the 3M 4492 tape need over time?

Inspect the polyethylene foam bond periodically; replace the tape if the white foam degrades or adhesion fails after exposure beyond 50 to 180 Degrees F limits.

What limit appears first when the 3M 4492 tape is under sustained load?

The 1/32 in thick foam reaches its shear or peel limit before the adhesive fails, especially at temperatures near the 180 Degrees F maximum.
