3M 4496 Double-Sided Foam Tape

3M 4496 is a black polyethylene foam tape supplied on a continuous roll with a liner included. The roll measures 3/4 in wide and 36 yd long with a thickness of 1/16 in. It is designed for assembly, manufacturing, construction and general maintenance tasks both indoors and outdoors.

Suited for general bonding and mounting

This tape suits installers and maintenance teams needing a conformable foam bond that performs between 50 and 180 degrees F. It is not intended for buyers who require a thinner profile, a different adhesive chemistry or a roll length outside the 36 yd format.

Behaviour under sustained load

The foam core distributes stress across the bond line while resisting relaxation at temperatures up to 180 degrees F. Continuous indoor or outdoor exposure within the rated range maintains holding power without the rapid decay seen in short-term burst tests.

Questions about this item

What surface temperature range can the 3M 4496 tape withstand once applied?

The tape performs continuously between 50 and 180 degrees Fahrenheit after installation.

Will the 3/4 inch width of this roll cover the same area as narrower strips I already use?

At 3/4 inch wide, each strip covers more surface per pass than 1/2 inch tape, reducing the number of pieces needed.

How can I confirm the 4496 series tape is bonding correctly during assembly?

Firm pressure across the full 3/4 inch width for several seconds activates the adhesive; a uniform bond line with no visible gaps indicates proper contact.
