Double-Sided Foam Tape 4950

3M 4950 is a white acrylic foam tape supplied as a continuous roll two inches wide and five yards long. It suits assembly, maintenance and repair tasks across automotive, aviation, construction, electronics, metalworking and general industrial environments. The adhesive bonds ABS, acrylic, composites, glass, metal, polycarbonate and powder-coated paints for indoor or outdoor use.

Temperature range and headroom

Rated from 50 to 200 degrees Fahrenheit, the tape maintains adhesion through seasonal shifts and moderate process heat. It will not withstand sustained temperatures above the upper limit or cryogenic conditions, so applications near exhaust manifolds or freezer doors need a different specification.

Liner and roll format

A release liner protects the adhesive until application, allowing clean handling and precise positioning. The continuous roll lets users cut exact lengths on site, reducing waste and fitting irregular joints without pre-cut constraints.

Questions about this item

Will the 2 in wide 4950 tape bond securely to the powder-coated metal panels I'm keeping from the last build?

The 4950 series lists powder-coated paints among its compatible surfaces, so it should adhere to those panels within the 50 °F to 200 °F operating range.

How can I verify the tape is holding at the rated 200 °F maximum after I apply it?

After the recommended dwell time, inspect the bond line for full contact and test at the intended temperature; the acrylic foam is designed to maintain adhesion up to 200 °F.

Does the roll include a release liner, or do I need to buy one separately?

A liner is included with the continuous roll, so no separate liner purchase is required.
