3M 5952 VHB Tape is a black, double-coated acrylic foam tape designed for heavy-duty mounting. It bonds a broad range of substrates including most powder coated paints. The tape comes on a red film release liner with a 3 inch diameter core. It replaces mechanical fasteners in many interior and exterior applications.

Sustained load behaviour

The acrylic foam core is viscoelastic, giving the tape energy absorbing and stress relaxing properties under continuous load. This provides outstanding durability performance with excellent solvent and moisture resistance. The bond maintains strength over time rather than relaxing quickly. Rough surfaces may require additional tape area for equivalent holding power.

Load-to-area ratio

The manufacturer recommends using four square inches of 5952 VHB tape for every one pound of load. This single specification determines whether the 15 foot roll provides sufficient bonding area for the intended weight. Insufficient tape area relative to load will result in bond failure.
