The 3M 983-326 is a red and white retroreflective tape designed for outdoor marking and visibility. It uses a microprismatic backing to return light to its source in low-light conditions. The product suits facility managers, safety officers, and vehicle operators who need durable conspicuity marking. It is not intended for buyers who require fluorescent daytime colour or photoluminescent glow-in-the-dark properties.

Installation and adhesion

The tape features a pressure-sensitive acrylic adhesive on a smooth polyester backing. Apply to clean, dry surfaces such as stainless steel, aluminum, or prepainted panels for the listed adhesion values. Peeling from the liner and pressing firmly avoids air pockets that reduce bond strength. Cold or contaminated substrates are the most common cause of edge lifting. The roll measures 30 ft long by 2 in wide.

Sustained outdoor performance

The 18 mil thick construction resists weathering, UV exposure, and temperature cycling in permanent outdoor installations. Adhesion remains stable on stainless steel at 6.0 lb/in and on degreased aluminum at 5.3 lb/in over extended periods. The microprismatic optics maintain retroreflectivity without the degradation seen in bead-type films. It is not suited for applications requiring conformability over deep corrugations or rivets.
