3M GPT-020 Double-Sided Polyester Tape

This 3M bonding tape uses a polyester film backing with acrylic adhesive on both sides. It measures 1 inch wide by 5 yards long and has an 8.3 mil thickness. The tape operates reliably across a temperature range of -10 to 200 degrees Fahrenheit. It is supplied new for general joining and mounting tasks.

Suitable uses and limitations

The transparent tape suits applications needing a thin, double-sided bond that withstands moderate heat and cold. It is not for buyers who require a heavier foam carrier for gap filling or a conductive adhesive for electrical grounding. Users needing a wider roll or a different backing material should look at alternative products.

Critical specification: 8.3 mil thickness

The 8.3 mil thickness determines the tape's profile and conformability for tight assemblies. This dimension decides whether the bond line fits within your design clearance. Verify this measurement against your stack-up requirements before ordering.

Questions about this item

What surface material and temperature range does the 8.3 mil polyester film tape require for reliable bonding?

The acrylic adhesive bonds to clean, dry surfaces and performs from -10 to 200 degrees F.

Will the 1 in wide GPT-020 tape adhere to low-energy plastics that older rubber-based tapes fail on?

The acrylic adhesive on the polyester backing is formulated for low-surface-energy substrates where rubber adhesives often lift.

How can I verify the tape is holding at the rated 200 degree F limit after application?

Inspect the bond after thermal cycling; the transparent polyester film should show no delamination or adhesive bleed at the upper temperature limit.
