Plant-Based Kitchen Sponges

These 3M natural sponges combine white cellulose with coconut fiber scrubbers for everyday dishwashing. The pack contains twelve pieces sized at 4.3 x 2.8 x .8 inches, suited for households that prefer biodegradable cleaning tools. Plant-based materials replace synthetic foam and plastic scourers.

Upgrade from Synthetic Sponges

The cellulose side absorbs soap and water while the coconut fiber tackles stuck-on food without scratching cookware. The switch is worth it when you want a sponge that dries quickly to limit odour and can be composted after separating the two layers. It avoids the microplastic shedding common with conventional green scrub pads.

Simple to Use and Separate

Wet the sponge, add soap, and massage to create a thick lather for surfaces such as ovens, sinks, and bathtubs. At end of life, pull the white cellulose portion away from the tan scrubber; compost the cellulose and discard the coconut layer. The main issue is forgetting to separate the halves before disposal, which prevents proper composting.

Questions about this item

How much space does the 12-pack container measuring 6.4 cm x 12.7 cm x 30.5 cm need on a shelf?

The pack fits in a box 6.4 cm wide, 12.7 cm deep and 30.5 cm high, so allow at least that footprint plus a little clearance for lifting the lid.

What is the common mistake when starting to use a cellulose and coconut fibre sponge?

Using it bone-dry; the white cellulose side must be soaked first to expand and soften before any scrubbing begins.

When should each half of the sponge be replaced or composted?

Compost the white cellulose portion when it falls apart or smells, and discard the coconut scrubber once the fibres flatten and no longer lift stuck-on food.
