Cold-shrink EPDM rubber insulator for 250–1250 MCM cables, shrinking from 2.25 in to .71 in over 6 in length
This 3M QI-18/57-325 Cold Shrink Insulator is a medium-wall EPDM rubber sleeve supplied in a 6 in length. It arrives pre-expanded on a removable core and shrinks to a 0.71 in inside diameter without heat tools. The tube is rated for 365 V dielectric strength and a -40 to 194 degrees F temperature range.
Electricians and maintenance crews splicing or terminating cables from 250 MCM to 1250 MCM will appreciate the tool-free installation and acid-alkali resistance. The product is not for low-voltage data cables, high-voltage applications beyond the rated dielectric strength, or joints requiring an adhesive seal.
The 2.25 in pre-shrink inside diameter and 0.71 in recovered diameter define the cable range this insulator can seal. If the conductor bundle falls outside 250 MCM to 1250 MCM, the sleeve will not shrink to a reliable fit.

The insulator is rated for a maximum continuous operating temperature of 194 degrees F.
No, the cold shrink insulator is a passive EPDM rubber component that generates no heat and requires no power during use.
The cable must be between 250 MCM and 1250 MCM so the insulator shrinks from 2.25 in down to 0.71 in for a proper seal.
