White wool buffing pad, 3 in. diameter, 15/16 in. thick, for abrasive finishing tasks
This 3M White Wool Buffing Pad 85084 is an abrasive finishing tool designed for surface polishing tasks. It suits detailers and hobbyists who need a wool pad for compounding or finishing work on paint, metal, or gel coat. The white wool construction provides a consistent cutting and finishing action. It is a dedicated consumable for rotary or dual-action polishers.
As a passive abrasive accessory, this pad generates no operational noise and draws no electrical power. Heat management depends entirely on the polishing machine used and the technique applied by the operator. The wool material dissipates friction heat during use but has no thermal specifications of its own. Performance varies with speed settings and pressure.
The pad measures three inches in diameter with a 15/16 inch thickness for standard backing plate attachment. It requires a compatible hook-and-loop or threaded backing plate on the polisher. No additional hardware is included with the pad itself. It frees the user from larger pads when working in tight contours or intricate areas.

Mount the pad onto a 3in backing plate using the centre hole, then tighten the retaining nut or hook-and-loop face; the step most people miss is centring the pad perfectly before spinning it up.
The wool fibres compress and glaze with compound residue; wash it in warm soapy water after each use, air-dry fully, and replace the pad once the nap is matted or torn.
Heat builds in the dense wool fibres first, causing the pad to soften and lose cutting ability; pause periodically to let the pad cool and avoid glazing.
