  • PCI Express 2.0 x8 interface delivers high bandwidth for storage arrays

Internal RAID Controller for Eight Drives

The 3ware 9750-8i SGL is a PCI Express 2.0 add-in card that provides eight internal 6Gb/s SATA and SAS ports through two Mini-SAS connectors. It uses an LSISAS2108 RAID-on-Chip running at 800MHz with 512MB of DDRII cache to accelerate RAID levels 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50 and single-disk operation. StreamFusion+ technology is included to improve multi-stream read and write performance across up to 96 physical devices.

Suited for servers needing internal array expansion

This card fits low-profile slots and targets administrators who want hardware RAID for multiple SATA or SAS hard drives or SSDs inside a chassis. It does not satisfy builds that require external drive connectivity, additional PCIe bandwidth beyond the 2.0 interface, or a battery backup module unless the optional StorSave BBU is sourced separately.

Eight internal ports via two Mini-SAS connectors

The defining specification is the pair of SFF-8087 connectors delivering eight 6Gb/s lanes for SATA and SAS devices. Confirm that the host system has a compatible PCI Express 2.0 slot and internal Mini-SAS cabling before purchase.

Questions about this item

Does my motherboard need a PCI Express 2.0 slot for the 9750-8i?

Yes, the card uses a PCI Express 2.0 interface, so the host board must provide at least one compatible slot.

Will my existing 3 Gb/s SATA drives work with the 6 Gb/s ports on this controller?

The controller supports both 3 Gb/s and 6 Gb/s SATA and SAS devices, so older drives will operate at their native speed.

How can I verify the 512 MB cache is active after installing the 9750-8i?

The 3ware management utility reports cache size and status; a healthy reading shows the full 512 MB DDRII cache enabled.
