eshinreal PCIe 3.0 x16 to 8 SFF-8643 NVMe Switch Card PLX8748

SKU CH-MYSW-EBWXD

Adds eight U.2 NVMe drives through a single PCIe 3.0 x16 slot using a PLX8748 switch for 15.76 GB/s total bandwidth

  • Product typeController Card
  • Eight independent NVMe channels from one PCIe 3.0 x16 slot
  • PLX8748 switch delivers 15.76 GB/s total bandwidth with non-blocking performance
  • 8x SFF-8643 ports connect up to eight U.2 NVMe SSDs simultaneously
  • Consistent 3.5 GB/s per drive throughput for NVMe 1.3 and 1.4 drives
  • Full-height and low-profile brackets included for flexible server deployment

Eight-port NVMe switch card

The eshinreal add-on card uses a Broadcom PLX8748 switch to turn one PCIe 3.0 x16 slot into eight SFF-8643 ports for U.2 NVMe SSDs. It supports NVMe 1.3 and 1.4 drives with up to 15.76 GB/s total host bandwidth.

Check your platform before ordering

You need a free full-height PCIe 3.0 x16 slot and a CPU or chipset that can expose sixteen lanes to it. Each drive requires a Mini-SAS HD to U.2 breakout cable, which is not included. A low-profile bracket is supplied for compact chassis.

Thermals and power in normal use

The PLX8748 switch distributes lanes without adding protocol overhead, so each SSD can sustain around 3.5 GB/s. The card itself draws only switch-chip power; total system draw depends on the eight NVMe drives installed. Activity and fault LEDs give instant visual status per port.

Questions about this item

What comes in the box and which cables must be purchased separately?

The card ships with full-height and low-profile brackets; 8x SFF-8643 to U.2 breakout cables are required for each NVMe drive and are not included.

Which version of the PLX switch chip is on this card and how many drives can it handle?

The Broadcom PLX8748 switch supports up to 8 NVMe 1.3 or 1.4 U.2 SSDs simultaneously across the 8 SFF-8643 ports.

What does the 15.76 GB/s host bandwidth mean for per-drive speed in a real system?

With eight drives active the PLX8748 distributes the PCIe 3.0 x16 link to deliver up to 3.5 GB/s sustained throughput per NVMe SSD.
